Hosting A Traineee
In The Agricultural Experience In Australia Program
BECOMING A HOST
Being a Host Family in these programs enables you to provide an
opportunity for young people in other parts of the world to study and learn
first hand about the Agricultural activities of Australia as well as gain an
insight into our culture and lifestyles.
TRAINEE QUALIFICATIONS
- Aged between 18 and 35 years
- Have a minimum of twelve months practical experience in a field of agriculture
they wish to undertake while in Australia, OR are Agricultural students at
a University or College and wish to gain additonal practical experience for
"credits" to their studies.
- Will be in good health
- Able to speak English
- Have a valid International Drivers Permit

DURATION of PROGRAM
1. Trainees come to Australia for:
a. 3 months (mainly Wine Trainees)
b. 6 to 7 months, or
c. 9 months or
d. 12 months
2. The Host Family nominates the time of the year that would suit them to
have a Trainee
3. Trainee is with the Host Family for a minimum of 3 months.
HOST FAMILY GUIDELINES
- Provides Trainee with meals and accommodation
- Pays the Trainee an allowance
- Trainee is expected to work the normal week for the industry. These may
vary depending on the season.
- Trainee has a minimum of 1.5 - 2.0 days 'off' per week. These days are
consecutive.
CATEGORIES of TRAINING
- Production Agriculture (Cropping, Dairying, Beef, Sheep, Pigs)
- Ornamental Horticulture (Plants, Nurseries and Wholesale Plant Outlets)
- Agri-mix (occasionally applications are received from young ladies
wanting this type of placement which is part housework, part farming)
- Wine Production (Trainee WILL HAVE Oenology qualifications)
